Remember! we have a dance practise for the 20 dance-starters for the Hipster After-Party Monday 18th @Driv 21:00. This is a closed rehearsal, meaning only the dance-starters are invited.
This prac will get us familiar with the band’s repertoire and be a good practise session to live music.

Unfortunately Driv is booked out by the Nordlys fest the first week of February (when we had planned on starting the course) so we have to back date our start to Feb 8. Sorry about this – can’t be helped when we have to share a venue. So just to recap on the courses:
First up this semester is American Samba/Bossa Nova and Mambo/Salsa in preparation for the No Siesta Fiesta Latin American festival in March.
In the American Samba/Bossa Nova class we might do a little bit of Cumbia as well.
Samba is very much a party dance and can be danced to club and techno music as well as traditional Samba music.
**For Mambo/Salsa we are hoping to have a level one for beginners and a level two. So the class will be split depending on numbers.
Members are free! And everyone else is only kr50,-!

Åpningsmottakelse
Den tradisjonelle åpningsmottakelsen blir holdt hvert år i forbindelse med åpningsvisningen. Tromsøbandet Rik og Berømt spiller til HIPSTERS-stemning.
Det vil bli servert en herlig buffet av sjømat fra Halvors Tradisjonsfisk AS. De har satt sammen en egen meny sammen med DRIVS kokker, og lover at gjestene skal få smake på det beste som regionen har å by på.
Meny for kvelden:
Klippfisk boller (bolinios) med hvitløksmajones
Sennepsgratinert klippfisk av sei på ratatoille
Tørrfisk gryte med potet, oliven, løk og cherrytomat

Opening reception
The traditional opening reception is held every festival after the screening of the opening movie. This year’s reception will celebrate the spirit of HIPSTERS with a swingin’ band, Tromsø’s own Rik og Berømt.
There will be served a delicious buffet of seafood supplied by Halvors Tradisjonsfisk AS. They have composed a special menu in cooperation with Driv’s chiefs, and promise that the guests will be able to taste the best available from the region.

We have our quota of free ticket holders for the After-Party. (Thank you guys for last night! You did great!) Sorry to anyone who missed out – maybe next time 
Dance nights will be on Mondays this Semester. We will be starting at the same time: 19:30-21:30. Our first regular dance night will be on 1st February updated: 8th February! Please let everyone know.
First up we will be doing Samba/Bossa Nova & Mambo/Salsa. These courses are specifically for getting you moving so you can attend No Siesta Fiesta. This festival has a great tradition of live music and there will specifically be Salsa and Samba bands at the fest. We might also learn a little Cumbia as there will also be a Cumbia band at the fest.
Having Tuesday nights free now means that we have the opportunity to do Rueda with Casino Royale. They hold classes at the docks from 7:30pm. If we get enough people interested in taking classes, Nik & Svetlana have offered us to do a speed course to push us through to the next level since we have had the initial beginners course with them last year! Great! But there needs to be enough of us attending the fast-track course for it to be worth it. So make sure you contact Nik from Casino Royale ASAP to let him know you are interested and make sure you say you are from UiT .

We have been invited to rehearse our Swing dancing at the bands Rik & Beromt rehearsal!!! (the smallest Big Band in town!) Yay!

This is a great chance to practise our Swing dancing to live music for the Hipster After-Party as this band is (obviously) playing on the Hipster night. (Which is the next day of the rehearsal so things will be fresh in you mind too – bonus!) This session, of course, is only open to those who have committed to being dance-starters at the After-Party . But if you want to commit make sure you get your butts over to the Swing dance prac night this coming Tuesday!!! Yay! So… we have:

Swing dance practise night!
This night will be a practise night in Swing and Foxtrot for everyone who wants to come to the TIFF Hipster After-party and be a dance-starter. The After-Party starts at 9pm, Tuesday 19th – there will be food and drinks, a Big Band for all your Swingin’ needs and partying late into the night.
There is a limit of 10 couples or 20 people invited from our club as dance-starters. Club members who can already Swing and Foxtrot will get first dibbs on a ticket. However, if we don’t have enough club members sign up, and if you are knew in town and want to join the club, you can come to this prac night and learn some Swing and join us at the After-Party. (So far 6 club members have emailed me an RSVP so you have a pretty good chance of getting a ticket to the best Big Band Swing party this town has seen since the club started!)

We have a good bunch of performance dancers for the opening of Hipsters. If you’d like to join us – whether as a performer or a ‘dance-starter’ please email us and give us your name and read on!!!

Da har vi satt opp en lukket visning av åpningsfilmen HIPSTER for dere torsdag 7.januar kl. 19.00 på Verdensteateret.
Vi håper at dette tilbudet både kan være som en ekstra gulrot for dere, og ikke minst inspirerende i forhold til det dere skal bidra med på åpningen. Kanskje man kan få noen ideer, og ikke minst få inntrykk av stemningen og atmosfære i filmen!

A closed screenings has been set up for us of the film Hipster on Thursday 7th January at 7pm at Verdensteateret.
We hope that this offer can be both an ‘extra carrot’ and inspire you for the opening night. Perhaps you can get some ideas and an impression of the atmosphere of the film.
Tuesday 12 the January at DRIV 19:00-21:00 – new members are welcome!!!!! If you don’t know how to Swing we’ll teach you if you come to the after-party with us!

- We have DRIV to ourselves on Tuesday 12th from 3pm – 11pm. We want to do our first rehearsal on this day at DRIV – perhaps from 5pm?
- On Saturday 17th January we want to book the Kraft aerobics gym so we can practise with mirrors. We have to pay per head for this session so we need a commitment from performers.
- On Tuesday 19th – we can have some time at DRIV to have a pre-practise of the performance. Hair and dress will be organised by a stylist arranged by TIFF (a fitting extra is yet to be scheduled). The performance will be before 6pm. (We think (TBC) that the performers can join the opening screening of Hipster.)
The after-party starts at 9pm at DRIV (19 Jan). All ‘dance-starters’ including the performers get free entrance. There will be a live Big Band with all the Swing music you can swallow! Even though there will be mingling, refreshments etc we have been asked to specifically dance and encourage other people to dance to help create a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.

As mentioned before the New Year, we have been asked to support the opening of the Russian musical film at TIFF with a performance. We already have four people committed and need another 2 to 4 people (guys are most welcome to join in!). We already have to routine choreographed where you will learn some crazy-great new Swing steps. The performers will get tickets to the film premier. We plan to rehearse on the two Saturdays leading up to the opening night on January 19th. Please if you are interested get back to us ASAP – we need to get cracking as there is only two weeks left – otherwise we will be opening the invitation to people outside the club.
Also on the Tuesday 19th January we are invited to be dance starters for the Histpers after-party. There will be a live Swing band so we can dance Foxtrots, Swings and maybe a waltz or two. To prepare we are having a class on Tuesday 12th January, 7:30pm at Driv, to brush up on those dances. We are not going to advertise outside the club for this dance night but if you have any friends who would like to join UiT danseklubb this semester, by all means bring them along so they can also come to the Hipster after-party.

We have a fantastic opportunity!!!!
We have been asked by TIFF (Tromsø International Film Festival) to dance at the opening of a special Russian musical-film called Hipsters – on January 19th 2010 at the kino. We will be Swingin’ – (And I know you know how to Swing ;D) and we will be doing a routine so we will need to practise, practise, practise!!! It will be an all out affair with having your hair done, make up and costumes to really look like the characters in the musical-film.
Also, we have been asked to be ‘dance-starters’ for a Big Band concert at Driv at the film’s after party. There will be a live Big Band (of course) and so we can do Swings, Foxtrots and Quicksteps, maybe even a Waltz! We might even learn some (partner) Charleston in our classes next year.
So, if you want to be have this great opportunity EMAIL me. We will have two weekends of rehearsals: 9th & 10th, 16th & 17th of January! plus a refresher on the night (before make-up).
Of course, you’ll get heaps of benefits – like free tickets to movies, drinks, food, and be able to see the preview of the Hipster film too! and, you’ll also be advertising our club not just in Tromsø but internationally!.. and you’ll be famous (well, at least for one night ;D
